HOW TO CHOOSE A PET FRIENDLY SOFA

For those of us with furry friends we have more to consider than just our human family when choosing a sofa. Whether your pet is super mucky or just a little too fluffy, here’s our guide to pet friendly sofas.

CLAW RESISTANT FABRICS  

Open weave fabrics snag easily and with claws and paws around this will likely become an issue as they can get stuck in material, pulling the stitches away from the fabric. To avoid this choose a fabric that doesn’t pull easily such as in the Oslo Corner Sofa Bed, the linen is less likely to pull and easy to clean. STAIN RESISTANT / EASY TO CLEAN SOFAS

With pets around spills or little accidents are more likely, but not to worry as our Chicago range has a hydrophobic coating to prevent spills from seeping in. This means quick accidents don’t become long lasting stains.

APPROPRIATE SOFA COLOURS

For mucky pups, going for a darker colour can be a lifesaver – for example the Darcy 3 Seater Sofa in Teal. However, if you’re the owner of a white cat or dog who sheds a lot it might be a good plan to stick to a lighter shade such as the Chicago Velvet Corner Sofa in Cream.

PET ODOURS ON SOFAS

Harsh but true – pets can cause unwanted odour. Especially if they spend a lot of time lounging on your sofa, the fabric may begin to get musty. Luckily, an easy fix for this is to dust bicarbonate of soda over the entire sofa, leave it for 10 minutes and then hoover it away. This is a fool proof way of lifting any lingering sent (although make sure you check the manufacture label to make sure the fabric can withstand this type of cleaning and patch test in a non-visible area if you are not sure)

OTHER OPTIONS

If you don’t want to compromise your sofa choice for your pet, a sturdy, machine-washable throw might be for you. This means your sofa will be protected, and for extra messy pets consider having two interchanging throws so when one is being washed you can use the other.
