Three Things to Consider When Buying a New Sofa
Buying a sofa can feel quite overwhelming. There’s so much choice out there and it’s an important decision – your sofa really is the heart of your home. Whether your main priority is comfort, something sturdy to withstand family life, or the latest style, there are three main things to consider before making the purchase. Keep reading for our fool-proof way to find your perfect sofa.
Fabric
Sofas come in all kinds of fabric and depending on your preference and requirements you may need to opt for one over another. For example, if you have pets, don’t opt for a thicker high maintenance fabric that will collect dust and pet hairs more easily. You want a sofa that will be easy to keep clean and looking nice, even after your furry friends have snuggled up with you on it!
So, when you are choosing your sofa consider not only which fabrics you like the look and feel of but which will suit your lifestyle.
For families we recommend something from our Chicago range that comes with a hydrophobic coating. Or if you’re looking for something more tactile try our Ferguson range.
Size
One of the best tricks to creating a comfortable and enjoyable living space is getting the spacing and flow of the room right. Carefully plan out areas that will need a walkway, where doors will open and close, how big other pieces of furniture will be.
Planning out the space will make sure you get the right size sofa, for example a large corner sofa such as our Darcy Linen Corner Sofa, would be perfect for a large room that will give it plenty of space either side. You don’t want to make a small room feel smaller with a sofa that’s too big. If you’re looking for a more compact solution, try one of our many two seaters.
Style
The style of your sofa is important for both your comfort, lifestyle, and the aesthetic of your living space. You can just choose something you like or if you want a more cohesive look, match your sofa to the style of your décor or the existing features of your home. We have a wide range of styles to choose from - from contemporary to traditional – shop all collections here.
