Spooky Design Mistakes to Avoid This Halloween
Don’t give people a fright with your interior design choice this Halloween! Read on for our advice on the most common mistakes that people make when planning their interiors.
Bad Lighting
Lighting is something that many people forget about when designing a space, however it is vital to the result of your interior. Cheap lights and a lack of natural are often the main culprits in ruining a well-designed room. This can massively affect how visitors experience a space.
To combat this, layer your lighting. Start by maximising mirror usage to make the most of whatever natural light is available, then add lamps and other light features to reduce shadowy areas. Further layers through the means of ambient lighting and decorative lights can also be added to make the most out of your space.
Poor execution of hanging art
Picking out pieces of art is a fantastic way to individualise your space. However, the correct size and location within your interior is crucial to achieve the right results. Hanging your art too high or too low makes it look like it doesn’t belong. Instead, hang your art at eye-level so that it complements the room perfectly. Size is also important, as small art can look peculiar. Bigger is generally better. It is also worth keeping the art central above furniture to achieve a symmetrical finish.
Forgetting to measure your space and buy your sofa accordingly
One of the most common mistakes made in interior design is attempting to judge the size of a space by eye. It is incredibly disheartening to order a sofa and find out when it arrives that it is either too big or too small for its intended space.
Getting this wrong can upset the scale of your room entirely. Ideally, you want your furniture to fit perfectly in your space, with at least a foot of space all around so there is enough space to move.

Keeping undesired hand-me-down furniture:
Everyone has been given unwanted hand-me-downs at one time or another and felt obliged to use whatever it may be out of sheer guilt. An old sofa is no exception and can make your room feel dated. Despite its sustainability, it is unlikely to fit your space as well as a sofa should. Keep it as a transitional piece until you find the perfect fit for your ideal design that brings you the happiness and satisfaction that the right sofa should.
